How it works

Three steps. That's the whole thing.

  1. Caption the file — Transcribe, paste lyrics or import a song, and edit until the captions are right.
  2. Choose a format — Press Download captions and pick SRT, WebVTT, TTML or ASS.
  3. Use it anywhere — Upload the file to YouTube, drop it into Premiere or Resolve, add it to a web player, or hand it to a broadcaster.
In detail

What you get

SRT

The universal format. Works in YouTube Studio, Vimeo, Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut and almost every player.

WebVTT

The HTML5 standard for web video players and the <track> element.

TTML

The XML format used for broadcast and streaming deliveries.

ASS

A styled format that carries your font, colors and karaoke word timing for players and editors that support it.

Pay once, download all

Caption downloads are priced per minute of audio and charged once per project. Every other format, and every re-download, is included after that.

Upload an SRT too

Already have subtitles? Upload the SRT when you start a project and go straight to styling, translation and export.

Why it matters

A subtitle file is the most portable thing CaptionFit makes. It carries the corrected words and the timing into whatever tool comes next, from a YouTube upload to a festival delivery, and it keeps working after the video itself has been re-edited.

Get the words right with automatic captions and lyrics sync first. Then translate the track and download a file per language from translate subtitles.

The workflow filmmakers and businesses rely on for accessibility deliveries.

FAQ

Common questions

Which subtitle formats can I download?
Four: SRT, WebVTT, TTML and ASS. SRT is the universal choice, WebVTT is for web players, TTML for broadcast and streaming, and ASS keeps styling and karaoke word timing.
Which format should I use for YouTube?
SRT. Upload it in YouTube Studio under Subtitles and YouTube keeps your timing. WebVTT also works.
Does every format cost tokens?
Downloads are priced per minute of audio and charged once per project. After the first download, every other format and every re-download of the same project is included.
Can I upload an SRT I already have?
Yes. Choose the SRT option when you start a project. Your file is loaded as the caption track and you can style, translate and export straight away.
Does the ASS file include karaoke timing?
Yes. ASS carries your caption style and the per-word timing used by karaoke highlighting. SRT, WebVTT and TTML carry text and line timing only.
