Karaoke Captions with Word-by-Word Highlight

Turn any caption track into a karaoke lyric video. The active word changes color, gets an outline or sits on a box, exactly on time.

How it works

Three steps. That's the whole thing.

  1. Get the words right — Transcribe, or paste your lyrics with Fix with Script so every word is correct before it is highlighted.
  2. Turn on Karaoke — In the Style panel, switch karaoke on and pick Style 1, 2 or 3 plus a highlight color. The preview updates as the song plays.
  3. Export — Export a 9:16 or 16:9 MP4 with the highlight burned in, or download a styled ASS subtitle file that carries the word timing.
In detail

What you get

Three highlight styles

Style 1 changes the active word's color, Style 2 gives it an outline, Style 3 puts it on a highlighted box. Pick any highlight color.

Word-level timing

Highlights follow real word timings from the alignment, not an even spread across the line, so fast verses and long notes both look right.

Live preview

Play the track in the editor and watch the highlight move. Change font, size, position or color and see the result immediately.

Burned in or as a file

Export the karaoke effect inside an MP4, or download an ASS subtitle file that keeps the styling and the per-word timing for players and editors that support it.

Keeps working after edits

Fix a word, move a timecode or paste corrected lyrics and the word timings are re-aligned so the highlight stays in sync.

Why it matters

Karaoke captions keep eyes on the screen. On a lyric video, a short, a worship slide or a language lesson, the moving highlight tells viewers exactly where they are in the line, which is why these videos hold attention longer than static text.

Because every word is highlighted on its own, every word has to be right. Start from lyrics sync if you have the lyrics, or from song link import if the song lives on Suno, Udio or Songer and already carries its lyrics.

Popular with musicians and AI music creators publishing to TikTok, Reels and Shorts.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I make a karaoke lyric video?
Upload or import your song, make sure the captions match the lyrics, then switch on Karaoke in the Style panel. Choose a highlight style and color, check the live preview, and export an MP4 in 9:16 or 16:9.
What karaoke highlight styles are available?
Three: Style 1 changes the color of the active word, Style 2 adds an outline to it, and Style 3 places it on a highlighted box. You choose the highlight color in each case.
Is the highlight timed to each word or spread evenly?
To each word. CaptionFit uses word-level timings from the alignment, so the highlight lands on the word as it is actually sung.
Can I download karaoke captions as a subtitle file?
Yes. The ASS format keeps the styling and per-word timing. SRT, WebVTT and TTML are also available, but those formats carry text and line timing only.
Does karaoke work in both 9:16 and 16:9?
Yes. The highlight is rendered into whichever aspect ratio you export, vertical for Reels, TikTok and Shorts or widescreen for YouTube.
